The Greek Chamber Music Project performs a brand-new program rooted in the melodies and dance rhythms of Greece's folk music tradition. This contemporary concert features the rousing and stately "Sextet" by Mikis Theodorakis. One of Greece's most famous living composers, Theodorakis is best known for "Zorba the Greek" and other film scores, as well as his vast library of popular songs.
The program also includes the U.S. premiere of Thanos Ermilios' "Greek Dances," as well as the witty and whimsical "Ironic Dance Suite" by Petros Sakelliou and the vibrant “Island Songs” by John Psathas. Each composer weaves folk songs into their scores in unique ways — a rare and eclectic engagement that is sure to inspire.
